What a Postpartum Doula Does
Emotional Support
Your doula is a non-judgmental listener. Families who have doula care are less likely to experience postpartum mood disorders like depression and anxiety.
Light Household Tasks
Your doula arrives and puts in a load of laundry (which she folds and puts away before she leaves!) During the visit, she helps with meal prep, and washes the bottles you'll need for the next few days.
Lactation Education
Your doula has taken a course in lactation and is confident helping with latch, positioning and troubleshooting some of the most common breastfeeding challenges.
Whole-Family Support
Whether it's preparing an older sibling for the arrival of the baby, or helping a non-birthing partner to be more hands-on with a newborn, doulas support the entire family.
Newborn Care
There are a lot of practical skills a doula can teach you to make caring for your baby a breeze! She's an expert in bathing, diapering, swaddling, and soothing techniques.
Referral List
Your doula has created a customized referral list for the Oceanside and Central Vancouver Island region. If specialized help is needed, she's happy to refer you to the right place!
